Like my daughter’s other linguistic quirks, you have to listen pretty carefully to know that she mis-pronounces “valentines,” but it’s OK: she’s not going to be 30 and still saying, “valentimes.” I will enjoy it while I can.
Today, we are using homemade playdoh, cookie cutters and paint to make valentimes for each other. Here is the recipe we used:
4 cups flour
1 cup salt (yes a full cup of salt)
1 1/2 cups water
Mix (and knead) well into dough. Roll it flat and skinny with a rolling pin and use cookie cutters to make hearts, teddy bears and other valentine shapes with it. Bake the shapes at 350F for 20-25 minutes. Paint them and share them. These are not edible! They are just decorative! Taste some of the dough if you don’t believe me: it’s gross.
A good time was had by all.
