Hot Chocolate for a Runny Nose

Heat all by itself is marvelous for a runny nose, but to really clear up your sinuses, try this recipe. As always, all stuff that I keep in my pantry anyway.

1/3 cup cocoa powder
3/4 cup sugar
pinch salt
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
chili powder
1/3 cup boiling water
4 cups milk

Mix cocoa, sugar, salt and vanilla extract with a generous sprinkling of ginger, cinnamon and chili powder in a sauce pan. Mix in the boiling water and put it on medium heat. Add the milk and allow it to heat through, but stir constantly to keep it from scorching.

If you want to bring this to a sick friend, mix the cocoa, sugar, salt, vanilla, ginger, cinnamon and chili powder in a plastic sandwich bag with instructions for adding the boiling water and milk.

Ginger has long been used for its anti-nausea properties and cinnamon and chili are both good decongestants. The taste properties of all of these make them a good compliment to hot chocolate. Feel better soon!
